Department of Rasashastra & Bhaishajya kalpana
The Department of Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana is a significant Ayurvedic branch that focuses on medicine, or Bheshaja, one of the four limbs of treatment. It was promoted to a PG department in 2010 with a intake of 5 seats, since then the department is actively engaged in teaching and educating UG students, interns, and PG scholars on the identification, processing, preparation, and use of Ayurvedic medicines.
The department’s flagship feature is its teaching pharmacy, which prepares more than 120 traditional and around 18 proprietary medications using basic Ayurvedic principles and updated with contemporary equipment and technology. Additionally, it supports the Ph.D. and postgraduate research projects of various departments of the institute. Research funding from universities are utilized in the department by both teachers and students. The process of upgrading teaching pharmacy to GMP-certified pharmacy is now underway.
The department has hosted RASADEEPTI I & II, webinars at the national level. The faculty has participated in MANE MADDU (Home Remedies) programs, which educate and raise awareness about Ayurvedic treatments among the local schools and institutions. The department faculty participates in the institute’s Pharmacovigilance unit and runs a number of programs to educate faculty, students, and patients about adverse drug reactions.
