Pediatric branch of Ayurveda / Ayurvedic Pediatrics
Kaumarabhritya is a branch of Ayurveda dedicated to the healthcare of children, from infancy through adolescence. “Kaumarabhritya” being one among the 8 branches, speaks about comprehensive childcare from birth to 16 years of age. The word “Kaumara” refers to “childhood,” and “Bhritya” signifies “caretaker,” highlighting this branch’s focus on the unique needs and care of children. Ayurvedic practitioners who specialize in Kaumarabhritya support children’s health and well-being, including dietary and lifestyle advice, herbal remedies, massage, and by traditional therapies.
Acharya Kashyapa is considered as the father of Kaumarabhritya. The branch of Kaumarabhritya is given prime importance as care of an individual from an early age forms the basis for health for the rest of life.Common conditions treated in Kaumarabhritya include growth and developmental concerns, respiratory infections, skin disorders, digestive issues, and behavioral problems. Additionally, practitioners provide preventive care, such as swarnaprashana and regular check-ups to track growth and development.
In essence, Kaumarabhritya presents a distinctive and all-encompassing approach to pediatric healthcare, merging traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern medical advancements. Practitioners in this field deliver safe and effective treatments, helping children flourish and achieve their full potential.
